Nikon Professional Services presents a special seminar for professional photographers featuring award-winning photographer and educator Bill Frakes along with pioneering visual storyteller Laura Heald.  During this two hour seminar, they will discuss using the latest in High Definition video equipment to take storytelling to new heights.  Frakes, a staff photographer at Sports Illustrated, has garnered many awards including a staff prize for the Pulitzer Prize at the Miami Herald.  His commercial clients include Apple, Nikon, Coca-Cola, Nike and many more.  Heald is a versatile, multi-faceted story-teller who co-founded Straw hat Visuals, a media company based in Jacksonville, Florida.  

This free Nikon sponsored seminar is open to the first 100 signees who register online.  This two hour seminar is scheduled for Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Washington Post in Washington, DC.

What You Should Know:

This is not a hands on seminar.  Those attending should have an interest mixing still photography with video capture and editing.  This seminar covers techniques used by Bill and Laura to create and publish still, audio and video driven content for multimedia presentations using the latest Nikon digital cameras.  This seminar discusses audio and lighting equipment and techniques used to create quality story telling products.

About the Instructors:

Bill Frakes is a Sports Illustrated Staff Photographer based in Florida.

A film maker, director and photographer he has worked in more than 125 countries for a wide variety of editorial and advertising clients.

His advertising clients include Apple, Nike, Manfrotto, CocaCola, Champion, Isleworth, Stryker, IBM, Nikon,Canon, Kodak, and Reebok.  Editorially his work has appeared in virtually every major general interest publication in the world.  He won the coveted Newspaper Photographer of the Year award in the prestigious Pictures of the Year competition. He was a member of the Miami Herald staff that won the Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of Hurricane Andrew. He has also been honored by the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards for reporting on the disadvantaged and by the Overseas Press club for distinguished foreign reporting. He was awarded the Gold Medal by World Press Photo.  He has received hundreds of national and international awards for his work.  He will be serving as juror for  the World Press Photo Competition in 2010.  

He has taught at the University of Miami, the University of Florida and the University of Kansas as an adjunct professor and lecturer.      

During the last five years he has lectured at more than 100 Universities discussing multimedia and photojournalism.

Laura Heald is a pioneer in the integration of high definition video, still photographs and audio into multimedia productions. Laura is a talented film maker, visual storyteller, photographer and reporter who is a rising star in the industry. Her work is regularly viewed on web sites like SI.com.
